Depart to Boston from Figaro’s parking lot (Enfield, CT) at 11 a.m. Departure from Boston on the ITA Airways nonstop flight to Rome. Dinner with beverage on board.

Day 2: Sunday, October 11

Before landing in Rome, a continental breakfast will be served. We disembark, go through immigration, and proceed to the domestic terminal for our flight to Naples. Upon arrival, we collect our luggage, go through customs, and meet our guide. Motor coach transfer to Maiori. The Hotel Pietra di Luna will offer a welcome drink. We check in and get our room assignments. Later, we enjoy lunch with wine at a local restaurant. The afternoon is free to rest and get acquainted with our surroundings. In the evening, dinner with beverages at our hotel restaurant. (L, D)

Day 3: Monday, October 12—Pompeii, Ravello

After breakfast, we depart by motorcoach for an excursion to Pompeii. Our guide will lead us on a walking tour of the ruins of this Roman town buried by the sudden eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. Walking through the streets of Pompeii, we'll enter ancient dwellings with exciting frescoes, pause at the baths and browse through the shops that were open 2000 years ago. After our walk, we’ll have a winery visit and enjoy lunch featuring local specialties and wine of the estate. After lunch, we continue to romantic Ravello, the hidden gem of the Amalfi Coast. We discover the natural beauty and hear about the town’s history. We visit Villa Rufolo gardens and the Duomo. Return to our hotel. Dinner with beverages at our hotel restaurant. (B, L, D)

Day 4: Tuesday, October 13—Capri

Today, we take a boat across the bay to Capri. While sailing, we enjoy spectacular views of the Amalfi Coast and the Mediterranean Sea. We land at Marina Grande and continue by minibus on a breath taking ride to Anacapri, the top part of the island to visit Villa San Michele. We descend and enjoy free time to browse around the famous “Piazzetta”. We return by boat to the mainland and our hotel in Maiori. Dinner with beverages at our hotel restaurant. (B, D)

Day 5: Wednesday, October 14—Amalfi Drive

We begin with a bus ride on the scenic and breathtaking Amalfi Drive. On our way, we pass Cetara, Vietri, Salerno, and arrive in Paestum. We visit the archeological park of Paestum, which was a major ancient Greek city of Magna Grecia. Paestum is home to three magnificent Doric temples, which are thought to be dedicated to the city's namesake Poseidon (known to the Romans as Neptune), Hera and Ceres. After the visit to the archeological site, we enjoy lunch at a local agriturismo before returning to Maiori. Tonight we are free for dinner. We can pick our own restaurant. (B, L)

Day 6: Thursday, October 15—Amalfi, Positano

After breakfast, we are off to explore the Amalfi Coast. The first stop will be in Amalfi. We follow our guide on a tour of the medieval town with winding alleys and steep steps set in a landscape of lemon trees and olive groves. After visiting the Duomo and the Chiostro, we board our boat and continue to Positano. From the sea, we admire the symphony of colors in front of us the lush green of Monti Lattari, the white, pink and yellow of the houses and silver grey of the pebble beaches against the blue of the Mediterranean Sea. We will have free time to explore Positano. In the afternoon, we return by boat to Amalfi, where we enjoy lunch before returning to Maiori. Dinner at our hotel. (B, L, D)

Day 7: Friday, October 16—Anzio, Nettuno area

Unfortunately, it is time to leave the little paradise of the Amalfi Coast as we head to Rome, capital of Italy. We travel north on the Autostrada del Sole (highway of the sun). On our way, we will see from the highway the Abbey of Montecassino, run by Benedictine monks. We stop in the historical area of Anzio-Nettuno. During the early morning hours of January 22, 1944, US troops of the Fifth Army swarmed ashore on a fifteen mile stretch of Italian beach near the towns of Anzio and Nettuno. The landings were carried out flawlessly and German resistance was so light that British and American units gained their first day's objectives by noon, moving three to four miles inland by nightfall. We will visit the military cemetery where nearly 7900 American service members are buried to pay our respects to the fallen heroes. The classically inspired memorial is constructed of travertine and marble. On the east façade, a relief carving depicts a fallen soldier being carried by his guardian angel. The many rows of headstones, arranged in gentle arcs, create a scene of eternal tranquility—and inspire remembrance of those who lost their lives. After lunch with wine at a local restaurant, we continue our journey to the Eternal City, check in at the Hotel Medici. In the evening dinner with wine at a local restaurant. (B, L, D)

Day 8: Saturday, October 17—Rome

After breakfast, we meet our guide who will show us around the Eternal city. The tour will feature the city highlights, including Via Veneto and Piazza Barberini with a beautiful fountain of the triton by Gianlorenzo Berninini; Piazza della Repubblica with the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels, Santa Maria Maggiore; the Colosseum, the largest amphitheater where gladiators fought to entertain the crowds; the Arch of Constantine under which the legions marched to celebrate their victories; Circus Maximus where chariot races took place. In the afternoon, we continue with a visit to the the Vatican Museum with many masterpieces by renown artists and of course the famous Sistine Chapel with the fresco of the Last Judgement by Michelangelo. Dinner on our own—a perfect opportunity to pick our own restaurant and mingle with the locals. (B)

Day 9: Sunday, October 18—Trastevere Region
In the morning, we will reach the district of Trastevere. Nestled on the banks of the Tiber River, Trastevere is a vibrant neighborhood in Rome that blends old-world charm with contemporary energy. Its cobblestone streets and colorful façades are alive with history, while the aroma of freshly baked pizza and sizzling supplì fills the air. Embark on a culinary
adventure as you wander through narrow alleys, discovering hidden gems serving Roman delicacies. Afternoon at leisure. Dinner on own. (B, L)

Day 10: Monday, October 19—Free Day
Today we have the day free. We can explore Rome on our own. We can take a walk to Via Veneto and sip our cappuccino at one of the sidewalk cafes. The Spanish steps are around the corner and the Trevi Fountain is near. Tradition says to toss the coins into the fountain to ensure our return to the Eternal City. Consider shopping in Via Frattina and Via Borgonona
where there are boutiques of famous Italian designers. In the evening, a farewell dinner with wine and live entertainment. (B, D)

Day 11: Tuesday, October 20
It’s time to pack our suitcase and our happy memories, hopefully we’ll return to Italy soon. Transfer to Rome airport for our return flight home.
